How Often To Post On Social Media: 2025 Success Guide

Updated on: December 30, 2024 by Louise Myers 77 Comments

Wondering how often to post on social media?

The short answer is, “As often as you can consistently post quality content.”

Quality and consistency are key to social media success.

This has not changed for 2025, and I don’t expect it to ever change!

But you want more… you want tips and suggestions! A place to start.

We got it.

How Often To Post On Social Media banner

How Often to Post on Social Media

Your business should post to most social platforms once or twice a day, on the days your followers are active.

Post only your best content that resonates with your audience. If too many posts fall flat, the platform will throttle the reach of all your content.

The one exception is X.

So here’s how to maximize your one or two daily posts: test all your content ideas on X first!

Tweet out your stats, tips, and links as text and see which get the highest engagement.

Then turn the best posts into short-form videos or graphics for your other social media accounts.

This marketer tried it and tripled his impressions on every platform… except Facebook Pages. Those are the toughest to get any engagement at all!

Now get the data-backed details on:

  • How often to post on Facebook Pages and groups
  • How often to post on TikTok
  • How often to tweet on X (formerly Twitter)
  • How often to pin on Pinterest
  • How often to post on Instagram
  • How often to post on LinkedIn
  • How often to upload to YouTube

You’ll find everything summed up on a colorful infographic at the end.

Don’t try to max out every platform – unless you have unlimited time or funds.

Pick the ones where your audience is active, and you see the best results.

How Often to Post on Facebook graphic

How Often to Post on Facebook 2025

Most studies agree that when posting to Facebook Pages, once per day is optimal, with a maximum of two posts per day.

Hubspot found that pages under 10,000 fans experienced a 50% drop in engagement per post if they posted more than once per day.

At a minimum, you should post to your Facebook Pages 3 times per week.

How often should you update your Facebook Page?

facebook iconBare minimum: once a week. Better: 3 times a week. Optimal: once a day.

Avoid: Sharing a bunch of posts in quick succession. Allow at least 3 hours between posts. “Too many updates” is the #1 reason people unfollow Fan Pages.

Action points:

1 | Get some Facebook content ideas and plan a week or month’s worth of posts.

2 | Discover the best time to post on Facebook 2025.

3 | Schedule your Facebook posts for free.

How Often to Post in Facebook Groups

The recommendations for posting to a Facebook group are quite similar to a Facebook Page.

It’s best to post at least 2-3 times a week, with daily posts being optimal. The maximum is around twice a day.

Build up gradually and check your stats. Make sure your engagement stays high! If people start ignoring or hiding your posts, that’s worse for your reach than posting less frequently.

Post a variety of content that you know your members are interested in:

  • Link posts.
  • Niche related news.
  • Facebook Live Q & As.
  • Content designed for Facebook engagement.
  • Promotional content like sales.
  • Milestones and thank you’s.

Remember to respond to members and not just talk at them! It’s a tall order.

How Often to Post on TikTok graphic

How Often to Post on TikTok 2025

The optimal frequency to post on TikTok is 1 to 4 times per day. This is often enough to try different types of content to see how they work.

TikTok themselves came out with that recommendation, which agrees with what successful TikTokers say is working for them.

Publish at least one quality video per day. Most users have found that 3 per day is optimal.

Be consistent, and choose a number you find manageable. It’s better to post once a day, every day, than 7 times in one day and nothing for a week.

Also, posts have a lifespan of around two days on the For You page, so regular fresh content improves your chances of being seen.

Here are a bunch of TikTok video ideas to keep you creating.

So, how often should you post to TikTok?

tiktok logoBare minimum: several times a week to once a day.

Optimal: 3 times per day.

Action points:

1 | Not a TikToker yet? Learn how to make your first TikTok video!

2 | To increase your chances of going viral, be sure to add the best hashtags for TikTok and the best TikTok captions.

3 | Learn the best time to post on TikTok 2025.

How Often to Post on Twitter graphic

How Often to Post on X (Twitter) 2025

The general consensus is to post on X 3 to 30 times a day. Tweets have an incredibly short shelf life, so it’s important to spread your tweets through the day.

The studies do vary wildly – anywhere from once per day to 51 times a day!

But don’t blast out junk just to remain active. Do use X as a testing ground for content ideas you want to maximize on your other social channels.

How often should you Tweet?

twitter iconBare minimum: once a day. Better: 3 – 6 tweets a day. Optimal: 15-23 tweets a day.

Dan Zarella found that the most-followed Twitter accounts averaged 23 tweets a day, with no decline in followers as tweet counts rose.

Avoid: Disappearing from Twitter for weeks or months – you’ll lose followers.

Action points:

1 | Learn the right image size for tweets.

2 | Discover the best time to tweet.

3 | Test content on Twitter to see if it resonates with your audience. If so, post it on your other platforms too!

How Often to Post on Instagram graphic

How Often to Post on Instagram 2025

You should to post on Instagram at least once per day, and no more than 3 times per day.

Mix up Instagram content types!

  • Carousels
  • Static posts
  • Reels

If you post 3x per day, 2 of those should be Stories, per Adam Mosseri.

At the very least, you should publish one Instagram post every week.

You can use approved partners for Instagram scheduling to auto-post for you safely!

How often should you update your Instagram?

instagram iconBare minimum: once a week. Better: 3 times a week. Optimal: once or twice a day.

Avoid: Sharing a bunch of posts in quick succession, or disappearing for weeks at a time.

Action points:

1 | Get some Instagram post ideas and plan a week’s worth of posts.

2 | Consider the best Instagram image sizes.

3 | Pick an effective group of Instagram hashtags to increase your posts’ exposure.

4 | Figure out the best time to post to Instagram 2025.

So, how often should you Pin to Pinterest?

pinterest iconBare minimum: once a week. Better: 3 – 5 Pins a day. Optimal: 10-25 Pins a day.

The optimal amount for your account will depend on how much time you have to dedicate to making fresh, quality Pins. 3 “fresh Pins” will perform better than 25 repeated Pins.

Avoid: Repeating the same Pins frequently or to more than 10 Pinterest boards.

Action points:

1 | Catch up on the current Pinterest best practices.

2 | Learn how to make Pinterest Pins that get seen and clicked.

3 | Determine your best times to pin on Pinterest.

4 | Or, make it easy. To schedule your Pins, try Tailwind.

How Often to Post on LinkedIn graphic

How Often to Post on LinkedIn 2025

How often to post on LinkedIn is easy: at least twice a week, and no more than once each business day, which is optimal. Post in the mornings.

Action points:

1 | Learn the most impactful LinkedIn post sizes.

2 | Discover the best time to post on LinkedIn.

How Often to Post on YouTube 2025

Consistency is key to how often to post on YouTube. You should aim to upload a new YouTube video once per week.

If you create a stash of videos before uploading, you’ll get an idea of how long your video creation will take, and if that’s a realistic goal.

Don’t abandon YouTube because you can’t post weekly, and don’t post junky videos just to get something uploaded.

It may sound like a broken record, but it’s really all about consistency, quality, and what works for your audience.

According to Filmora, you’ll grow your channel faster if you:

  1. Create a specific YouTube posting schedule.
  2. Post your upload schedule on your YouTube account.
  3. Don’t overcommit! Creating YouTube videos takes time.
  4. “Bank” YouTube videos so you have them ready to upload on your schedule.

Here are some fantastic tips on posting frequency from Business Film Booth.

I jumped you right to that part of the video, but the whole thing contains important advice.

How often you should post a video to YouTube depends on a whole heap of things. There is not a set answer. This video will talk you through everything you need to consider before you produce one video a week, day or month.

Action points:

1 | If you haven’t yet, create awesome YouTube channel art.

2 | Bank a stash of videos. Here are some great YouTube content ideas to get you cranking.

3 | Be sure to create compelling YouTube thumbnails for each video.

4 | Discover the best time to upload to YouTube.

How Often Should You Blog?

Some quick thoughts here, since blogging is sometimes lumped in with “social media.”

blog rss feed iconBare minimum: once a month. Once weekly is ideal, and if you can post two or three times a week – even better.

If you’re new to blogging, more content will definitely move you up in the search rankings. Established blogs with plenty of content should focus less on how much new content they can create, and more on updating and optimizing their current content.

Avoid: Posting low quality content to meet a “quota.” Publishing a ton of blog posts when you have time to write, and none when you get busy. Consistency will help the search engines – and your readers! – know what to expect. But be sure it’s quality.

Action points:

1 | Choose a comfortable frequency you know you can keep up with.

2 | Learn some SEO basics for beginners.

3 | Start writing, and get a few posts scheduled in advance.

4 | When – and if – you can, increase your posting frequency.

5 | Once you have a library of content, be sure to keep it updated.

How Often Should Business Post on Social Media?

A business should post to social media as often as they can publish quality content that their audience enjoys.

Key points:

  • Posting consistency is more important than posting frequency.
  • Content quality is more important than content quantity.
  • Set an objective for social media, so you know if your posts are successful or not.
  • And always check your stats to see what works best for your account!

Now that you’ve seen the research and tips, you can decide your own best frequency. Hat tip to CoSchedule, Buffer, and Forbes for data.

Choose your pace and stick to it, so your followers know what to expect. Consistency is key to attracting and retaining followers!

Of course, high quality content is a must.

Posting more does not mean your content will be seen more!

Different social networks’ algorithms work differently, but engagement and relevance is key to all!

Does this help you with how often to post on social media? Let me know!

I’ve always found your resources to be excellent!

Q: Do you plan to post recommended dimensions for profile and banner images for Flickr at a future date?

I’m increasingly finding that folks I know are moving away from the Meta platforms you reference because of data and/or privacy concerns. Fortunately, Flickr is (still) one of the few social platforms that don’t harvest/sell your data to brokers.

    Thanks, Mark

I apologize for my late reply. I think there was a misunderstanding. I’m not having any issues with Flickr or their parent company SmugMug. My issues (data/privacy) were with Meta’s platforms, specifically Facebook and Instagram.

    Hi Louise,

Thank you so much for your article, i’ve found it very helpful.

Could you clear something up for me though between instagram posts and instagram stories. It’s not specified in your article, but i’m presuming it is based on posts and not stories. If i post say 3 slides on stories per day, does instagram pick that up as i’m being consistent, or does it have to be posts, or does it have to be both stories and posts.

Should we alternate perhaps, so 3 slides one day, the next day 3 posts, etc?

And then with LinkedIn, there is a personal page and a business page, and both can be posted on. Do we post on both of them 2 x a week, and the same content on both, or leave the personal one and post on business one or post on the personal one advising to head on over to the business one to “view more” of the post?

    Thank you so much!

      Hi Leann,
Re IG, I would try to post a story AND a post at least daily. It’s not that IG is watching to see if you’re consistent – it’s that you want to stay in front of your followers.

I’m not much of a LI user so I don’t really know. I would think there should be some differentiation between what you’d post on a personal vs business. If it’s a micro business (one person, or centered on one person), then maybe you don’t need both pages? Check with a LI expert 🙂

Re: the HubSpot article, shouldn’t we look at total engagements per time period, not just engagements per post? HubSpot’s focus on engagements per post would suggest that the optimal rate for pages under 10,000 fans is 1-5 times per month. But what really matters for exposure and click-throughs is total engagement. So the right metric would be posts per month multiplied by the average engagements per post.

Let’s look at this using HubSpot’s graph and focus on accounts between 1,001 and 10,000. The first category has an average of 3 posts per month and 100 engagements per post, for 300 engagements per month on average. The second category averages around 10 posts per month and 95 clicks per post, for 950 engagements per month. The third category averages around 23 posts per month and 80 engagements per post, for 1,840 clicks per month. The fourth category averages around 45 posts per month and 55 clicks per post, for 2,475 clicks per month. The final category averages who knows how many posts per day, let’s say 75, and around 35 clicks per post, for 2,625 clicks per month.

So if you’re optimizing for the number of total clicks, which is probably the metric most directly tied to sales or whatever your goals are, you actually do want more posts. There are diminishing returns after the 31-60-per-month category, so maybe you stay below 60/month to avoid the downsides of over-communicating and losing followers. Does anyone disagree?

    Reply
    • Louise Myers says

      February 15, 2020 at 9:36 AM

The suggestion here does advocate no more than 60 posts per month.

While I agree that more posts should equal more clicks, I suspect FB will only show so many posts from your page. And at some point you’ll have people ignoring, hiding, or unfollowing.

So I definitely agree that we want to “avoid the downsides of over-communicating and losing followers.”

1-2 posts a day seems optimal, but as with everything, each business should test and evaluate their results.

Good post! I would like to get your opinion. A coworker and have differing opinions on when to create events and how many at a time. I try to strategically post them about 3-4 weeks out and not too many in a week. He wants to try a method where once every week or once every two weeks he creates all the events for the next month or so and dumps them in. I think that would come across as spamming. But what do you think?

The pricing is much more affordable than Tailwind and allows more accounts. And to be frank. I really struggle to get through your blog posts because of the number of ads, many repeated in the same post. Maybe you know about social media posting, but I’m not liking the blog posts.

      Hi Carol,

I have Buffer on my list of Instagram schedulers that direct post.

The reason I greatly prefer Tailwind over Buffer for Pinterest is that TW allows me to schedule to all relevant boards at once, at an interval I specify. Since Pinterest is my platform of choice, I can keep active there for a couple hours and $10 a month. Well worth it if Pinterest traffic is a key part of your marketing plan.

I appreciate your feedback about the ads. I’m trying to go through my posts 1 by 1 and adjust the amount and placement, however I have no control over repeats.

I understand that no one wants to see ads, but it’s quite a good way to earn a living.

Really informative post ! Facebook’s new algorithm update reduces the organic reach, when we post too often, we can see lot’s of post not reach as we expect.

Hi, Louise. I find this so useful and I refer back to it often! I have a question about Pinterest. Is the suggested 11 pins per day the number for pinning your own pins or others’ pins? Sorry if this question seems really obvious. I’m new to Pinterest!

Hi Mayo. That would be total number of pins from yours and other websites.

Nice post! It sums it nicely and I like how it shows both low and high end for posting on these various platforms.

Another great infographic Louise – So many ask this question not only on social but email marketing too. I have been going by what Buffer and Hubspot blogged about this, but Buffer never updated it – I asked on Twitter, but they never did. Your input here is helpful. I’ll share with my social network and use your infographic on our website (we’re updating right now).

Any account that posts more than five times a day to any of my social media accounts will be DELETED. Deservedly so.

And a business account will be given far less leeway. 2 or 3 times a week, MAX.

I think you’re saying you won’t follow a business account that posts more than 2-3 times a week. Which is fine, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend a business post that infrequently. 90+% of posts won’t be seen by any specific follower, so businesses need to post more than twice a week (depending on platform).

This has changed significantly in 2020. I enjoyed this article immensely, but have found that a couple well written longer posts on Facebook has gotten more engagement and reach than posting once or twice a day.
          Have you experienced that recently?

            Hi Shelley,
Are you saying just a couple *per week*? Very interesting if so.

I’d love to know more. I don’t see this technique on your own FB page but maybe you’re using it on others you manage?

            Thanks for any details.

Do you know if creating a Facebook event counts as a page post? I have a lot of events and a ton of content, so I consistently struggle to keep below two per day.

If it posts to your page, then I’d say yes. but if your strategy is working, don’t worry about it.

I love the big simple chart! It’s so true if people over post on my instagram and facebook I stop following them. I clogs my feed. I like to see what other people are up to. Also if people do too many selfies I don’t follow.

Love it! Go all in on content marketing, it is how people find you. Especially through social media because that is where all the attention is.

Only once a day on FB? That seems really low and against the advice of most people I have read. Not sure what to do with that. I guess I’ll look up hubspot and see where they are getting that #.

I’m hearing it more and more. Jenn Herrmann was suggesting 5-7x a week about a year ago. And I recently heard a page with 100K fans say their best results are when they post only 3x a week!

I think you have to test and see what works best for your audience.

    Hey Louise,

Thanks for the data and infographic!

Tell me, do these posting frequencies refer to your own content or total content including curated content? For example, one post a day on Facebook seems low if you were to post a mix of your own content and other people’s content.

Re: “Hubspot found that pages under 10,000 fans experienced a 50% drop in engagement per post if they posted more than once per day.” The study was on total posts per day.

CoSchedule recommends alternating your own content and others’.

But if posting more frequently works for you, keep doing it! Your own results are more important than averages from a bunch of pages.
